Introduction

My name is Arjan Westerhoff and started my professional career within the data center industry in 2000 at AboveNet | Metromedia Fiber Network.

The majority of my career I have operated the Schuberg Philis data center for almost 20 years. This journey started with focus for availability, later it was about sustainability of the data center.

My sustainability journey started with energy efficiency optimizing of the existing data center using a combination of cooling towers and aquifer thermal energy storage (ATES). Later it was about becoming more water efficient and chemical free.

At the moment I work as a Operational Capacity and Efficiency Director at nLighten and from this role I also support the Dutch Datacenter Association with different subjects but especially the ISO/IEC 30134 datacenter KPI’s which are part of the ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 39 Sustainability, IT and data centres. Supporting the Climate Neutral Data Center Pact and the European Data Center Association.
